250 girls will be a scientist for a day – g4g launches its first event in Flanders!

On Saturday 24 November 2012, the European School Mol (ESMOL) will welcome 250 girls between 11 and 15 years to introduce them to science in fun and exciting ways – g4g style!   The participating girls will come from both the European schools of Mol and Bergen, Netherlands as well as local schools throughout Mol and neighbouring towns.  This will be our first greenlight for girls day in the Flanders region!  The g4g day will consists of some 30 interactive workshops and stimulating speeches given by prominent female scientists.   Example workshops include:  Extracting DNA from a Kiwi, Find out the Science of Polymers and Small is Different (an introduction to Nanotechnology) and will be given in different languages including English and Dutch.  There is also a ' fun lab ' to get some hands-on experimenting experience in the Xperilab, a bus filled with scientific experiments.

The g4g day in Mol fits in the framework of the science week (19-23 november).  After participating in a g4g event in Brussels in 2010, ESMOL decided to bring it closer to home and wanted to organise it at their school.  The project is sponsored and supported by EC-JRM-IRMM, SCK-CEN, Janssen Pharmaceutical and VITO.
